Portishead meetings

Monthly writing and reading sessions at Portishead Library.

Portishead writers’ group and Bring Your Own Book are relaxed monthly sessions for people who want to write, read, meet other people, and keep going.

Regular meetings

Two monthly sessions.

The writers’ group is for getting writing done and staying accountable. Bring Your Own Book is for readers who do not want to be told what to read.

Second Tuesday2-4 pm

Portishead writers’ group

A relaxed monthly writers’ group for accountability, encouragement, and getting words on the page.

There is no pressure to read aloud, share work, or perform as a writer. The session is mainly there to help you turn up, write, and keep going.

Bring Your Own Book

Bring whatever you’re reading. There is no set book, no homework, and no requirement to finish anything by a certain date.

Fiction, nonfiction, essays, poetry, enormous classics, niche curiosities, Haynes manuals, and train timetables are all fair game.

What to expect

Friendly, low-pressure, and useful.

The sessions are designed to be easy to join. You do not need to be published, polished, confident, or ready to read your work aloud.

No pressure to read aloud
You can write quietly, listen, talk, or simply use the session as protected writing time.
Feedback happens outside the session
Feedback works better when people have time to read properly, so it can happen by email or through the community area.
Readers are welcome too
Bring Your Own Book is for anyone who wants better reading conversations without being assigned a set text.
